Thirty years ago, a group of people contributed to the drafting and enactment of California’s current death penalty laws. At the time, they believed the death penalty was a good choice for California…today they are working with SAFE California to take it back. Here are their stories:

Bishop Cirilo Flores
The Most Reverend Cirilo Flores is coadjutor bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego.

Don Heller Don helped write the ballot initiative that reinstated the death penalty in California in 1978.

Ron Briggs
In 1977, Ron and his father, former state Senator John Briggs, wrote and helped pass the 1978 Briggs initiative which created California's death penalty as we know it today.
